“I am interested in reducing objects to their essential structure and allowing the material itself to become the primary visual element. The result is work that feels both timeless and modern.”
- Alan Meredith
For artist, architect, woodturner, craftsperson, and designer Alan Meredith, wood is at once a literal and figurative theme in his work. From a studio on his ancestral farmlands known as The Oak, in County Laois, Ireland, Meredith produces furniture and contemporary sculptures hewn from locally sourced wood—often oak trees—exploring the relationship between object and raw material.
His practice results in one-of-a-kind functional, sculptural objects that synthesize design, engineering, and craft into something new and thought-provoking.
