Using and responding to the inherent qualities of wood, maker Alan Meredith takes the most ancestral material truth and translates it using modern design language. The “Ebonized” series uses hand-selected green Irish oak that the maker himself turns on a lathe and steam-bends into a shape both contemporary and ancient. Fine tool marks leave the texture more subtle and refined, yet retaining its tactile identity. The surface is blackened using India ink, which penetrates the grain and accentuates natural variations with a deep, velvety finish. 

Due to the handmade nature of these objects and the inherent unpredictability of wood, each is one-of-a-kind, and imperfections should be expected and celebrated.
