“With a process that involves anywhere between 130 to 140 steps, these chazutsu have virtually remained true to their original designs established by Kaikado’s founding generation.”
- Kaikado
Kaikado has never wavered in their belief in the power of objects made by hand, able to be passed down generation over generation.
Based in Kyoto with a singular intention built over seven generations, Kaikado has dedicated itself to making handmade “chazutsu” (tea canisters) since 1875. Chazutsu are an essential part of the Japanese tea culture, vital in preserving the quality of loose-leaf tea. They are beloved for their craftsmanship and the way they age, developing a unique patina over time. The series of functional canisters honor ancient traditions and mindful purpose.
