Every object from Alan Meredith represents a dialogue between maker and material. He hand-shapes the steam-bent wood on a lathe, and cuts grooves into the surface using traditional woodworking tools. The “Altered” series is then sandblasted with high-pressure recycled glass to enhance the natural grain and structure of the tree, and subjected to a fuming process that reacts with tannins to develop warm, deep color within the very wood itself. 

Due to the handmade nature of these objects and the inherent unpredictability of wood, each is one-of-a-kind, and imperfections should be expected and celebrated.
